Get ready to shout “Viva México!” as El Grito Chicago, a vibrant celebration of Mexican Independence Day, takes over Grant Park in downtown Chicago from Saturday, September 14th to Sunday, September 15th, 2024. This year marks a significant milestone, as it’s the first time in over a decade that this iconic celebration returns to downtown Chicago, embracing the heart of the city and its thriving Mexican community.

Celebrate Mexican Culture, History, and Gastronomy!

El Grito Chicago is more than just a festival; it’s a celebration of Mexican history, culture, and gastronomy. Attendees can expect captivating performances featuring national and local talents, including Mariachis and ballet folclórico at the Petrillo Bandshell. This two-day event also offers an array of authentic Mexican food, beverages, merchandise, and special family experiences in collaboration with local organizations.

“This is a landmark event for Chicago and our Mexican community,” said Jaime Di Paulo, President & CEO of the Illinois Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. “Working with our community members and business partners, El Grito Chicago will offer a Grito civic ceremony honoring Mexico’s Independence, live star-studded entertainment, fun and engaging activities for children, and local authentic food and merchandise vendors.”

A Weekend Full of Music, Food, and Fun!

Taking place at Butler Field in Grant Park, El Grito Chicago will run from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. on both days, featuring a lineup of national and local performing artists, mouth-watering Mexican food and drinks, and a bustling artisan market.

Special Highlights and Activities

The festival will feature a kids’ carnival area, and experiential activities presented by major brands and sports teams, ensuring fun for the whole family. On Sunday evening, around 8 p.m., the Mexican Consulate in Chicago will host the El Grito Civic Ceremony, a traditional highlight of the festivities.

El Grito Tickets & Admission

One-day and two-day passes, as well as VIP passes, are on sale now for the festival. Registration is also open to attend the civic ceremony for free on Sunday.

  • Children under 10 get free admission if accompanied by a ticket-holding adult. Ticket-holding adults can bring up to two children.
  • Children under 14 must be accompanied by a ticket-holding adult at all times.
